Tips on How to Maintain Healthy Skin

To have a better skin, first thing you need to do is know your skin type. there are three skins types namely, oily skin, dry skin and normal skin.

Usually, people who have an oily skin type are the ones affected by acne problem.

Here are simple tips to have a better and healthier skin:

1. Make it a habit to wash your face gently every morning and before going to bed. Never rub it since your face has the most sensitive and delicate skin part of your body. Anything that you use for your face that hurts or makes it reddish is harmful. Use only those that gives you a soothing effect.

2. Use a clean cloth or if you really want to be sure a cotton to dry your face. Never use your body towel to dry up your face. It might have germs in it and your skin get irritated.

3. If you put on make- up, make sure you use hypo- allergenic brands. Although, it still varies since there are hypo-allergenic products that still cause some irritation. If you get an irritated skin, stop using it right away.

4. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses to maximum of 3 liters of water everyday. Our body get rid of around 3 liters water everyday through urination and sweating so its necessary to replenish it the same amount to rehydrate. Water helps cleanse your system. Juices and colas are not included in the counting of 8 glasses. It is important that you only drink plain water.

5. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and avoid or minimize junk foods and chocolates. It always shows in your skin if you’re eating right for your skin always glows.

6. Have enough sleep daily. Make it a habit to get sleep at least 7 hours or better 8 hours sleep daily. At night time, your skin regenerates and heals while you are in deep sleep mode.

7. Maintain a positive outlook in life. It is important that you keep a positive mindset everyday so you get to maintain healthier and younger looking skin.

8. Smile. You only use only 14 muscles when you smile and 72 muscles if you frown. Do not stress yourself. In the end, its you who will lose control of yourself and get to grow old faster.

Sad Truth About Diseases

Health is wealth.

Just very recently, my mom and I went to the hospital for a check-up. We went to Northern Mindanao Medical Center for the laboratory examinations. My mother is only 58-years-old but she started suffering from hypertension since she was 40.

When we got to the ER, we met a close friend’s cousin who is an Internal Medicine practitioner in the said hospital. We were all pretty concerned when she had her blood pressure checked ‘coz the result was an alarming 220/100! She was promptly adviced by the doctor to take Captopril (25mg). After 30 minutes she was again checked but the BP was still the same. They again asked her to take another medicine, Logimax and thankfully, her blood pressure went down to 160/90 (although still very high).

While I was waiting for my mom undergoing another laboratory test, called ECG, I had a chance to talk to a lady watching over a relative who is suffering from diabetes and kidney complications.

What bothered me so much is that I saw a whole lot of people who were very desperate to be free from illnesses yet they looked so helpless.

The sad truth is that a good number of people nowadays are still not aware about the prevailing cause of the common health problems that we usually encounter.

One big example is having a diabetes. Some would say its hereditary but they don’t realize that can acquire diabetes through unhealthy eating habits and obesity.

Though we can easily find out about the usual cause of this deadly disease, we still prefer burger and chocolate over fruits and vegetables. We prefer to drink alcoholic beverages than healthy natural fruit juices.

Anyway, my mom is still on her work-up stage but I’m happy that she is very receptive and follows her regimen. I know that she will be fine soon. Her doctor is very supportive and I’m giving her full dose of her daily food supplements.

One should always remember that occasional use of medication and regular intake of supplements will only help your body function well. The greatest bulk of the responsibility is on YOU. You have to ensure that you take good care of your health by eating the right kind of food and get to exercise every single day.

Don’t wait for your body to call your attention by giving you chronic illnesses. As we are all stewards of our own body, we have the responsibility to take care for our self, and for our family.

How to Take Care of your Asthmatic Child

One of the chronic disease that is affecting everybody regardless of socio-economic status is asthma. It is most common among children hence proper care and prevention should be on top of your list if you have an asthmatic child.Asthma (Az-muh) is a chronic disease that affects your airways by experiencing attacks of breathlessness and wheezing.

Some have acquired asthma and others through genetic composition.

Although causes of asthma attacks are not totally understood, some prevalent factors for asthma attacks comes from inhaled asthma triggers. These includes:

  • indoor allergens (like house dust mites in bedding, carpets and stuffed furniture, pollution and pet dander)
  • outdoor allergens (such as pollens and moulds)
  • tobacco smoke
  • chemical irritants in the workplace

Some other causes include cold air, extreme emotional arousal like anger or fear and physical exercise.

For children with asthma, it is very important that you choose a pediatrician who is specializing pulmonary infections or other related specialization. Work closely with your doctor and make sure you bring your child for a visit when symptoms occur. Diligently follow his/her medication.

Check the medications since some can trigger asthma attacks like aspirin and other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs.

Taking care of your asthmatic child requires patience and follow through.Here are simple tips I could recommend:

1. Avoid exposing your child to asthma triggers.

2. Keep your house clean and ventilated.

3. Let him take enough sleep at night (minimum of 8 hours) and in between naps at day time to avoid stress.

4. When at the playground, bring lots of extra shirt and ensure that he has dry shirt on. Sweats that left unnoticed will dry eventually that may cause coughing and soon triggers asthma.

5. Avoid giving them chocolates, peanuts and other foods that might cause allergies.

6. At home, make sure there is enough zyrtec and ventolin nebule just in case. Make sure you buy yourself a nebulizer so you don’t have to rush to the hospital whenever your child has an asthma attack.
