Why is Eating Breakfast Important?

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Eating breakfast is very important but sometimes taken for granted by many. But sad truth is that most of us doesn’t have the luxury of time to prepare meals before going to work.

The most important meal is still breakfast, simply because your body has been starved for almost 12 hours from the time you had your dinner the other day.

Can you imagine not feeding your body the right kind of nutrients it needed to support you in your day to day life? So basically what happens if you don’t eat your breakfast?

Contrary to what you think that skipping breakfast will help you lose weight, the effect is the other way around. If you skip eating your meal you’re cells will deteriorate and soon will cause to slower your metabolism. With this, it will be much difficult to lose weight.

According to American Dietetic Association, eating your breakfast helps in weight management. It also refuels the body to help provide energy, better concentration and problem-solving ability throughout the day.

Choosing the right kind of food for breakfast plays a very important role in creating a healthy life. A hearty breakfast of protein rich foods and low in fats and sugar will definitely help you through the day.

It doesn’t have to be very complicated though. If you are busy that you have no time to prepare, just blend the 3 tablespoon of Nutritional Protein Drink Mix (Formula 1) of Herbalife with 250 ml cold water, add 1/2 banana, non-fat milk and oats then you get your healthy breakfast. This formula will already give the right amount of nutrients your body needs for the day, at 250 calories.

It takes a lot of discipline to get up early, eat properly, give 10 minutes for stretching and go to work. But the effect will it do to your body will be well worth it.

Take good care of your health and you will get what you want in life.

What is Wellness?

What is wellness?

  • “The condition of good physical and mental health, especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise and habits.” - American Heritage Dictionary
  • “It’s about feeling better and looking better.” - Mark Hughes, Founder, Herbalife
  • “Wellness is about waking up every morning and having enough time, energy and freedom to live the life you want.” - Author Unknown

I have gathered these definitions to ensure that at  least one way or another, we can be one in our definition of what it means when we talk about wellness.

My definition of wellness is somewhat similar but I would like to elaborate further.

Mental Wellness

It means you are healthy intellectually. You feed you mind with positive thoughts and take away negative ones. It includes reading good books and listening to speakers. Its taking time to attend personal development seminars and skill enhancement training programs. Making yourself grow intellectually will open up doors of opportunities and unending blessings if you only give an open mind about a lot of things in life.

 Emotional Wellness

There are several studies conducted already that people who have positive outlook in life lives longer than those who are pessimistic about their situation. Being emotionally healthy means taking control of how you react to any situations in your life. We have different life situations, problems, and challenges in the past that we do not have any control. Being healthy emotionally is taking things as they are and always looking into the positive side of things.

Spiritual Wellness

Your spirituality also helps in your over-all well being. Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, what’s important is that we acknowledge that there is somebody above us who has helped us and guided us in our day to day life. It has been observed that those who have strong spiritual faith can easily cope with life’s difficulties and are positive about life in general.

Physical Wellness

This is the most obvious classification of becoming healthy. It means eating the right amount of healthy nutritious foods and exercise daily. It is the basic thing required by our body to sustain life. Taking good care of your physical health is a one step forward to becoming healthy.

In summary, wellness is an over- all emotional, mental, spiritual and physical health. It is a disciplined act of every aspect of life. Balance is the key to attaining optimum health. Hence, being healthy is not about money or getting the latest stuff to look cool.  It simply means taking away the complications in life and putting things in the right perspective.

Good luck to becoming healthy!

The Importance of Water to Stay Healthy

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Water is very essential in our body.  Some might have taken water for granted but without us realizing it, it’s the second essential element that our body requires to survive next to oxygen.

We need fresh water to aid our body in many ways:

1. It aids in the digestion and absorption of our food.

2. It helps regulate body temperature.

3. It helps our body organs function well.

4. It helps prevent illnesses (through water therapy), if you drink enough water everyday.

5. If you are a health enthusiast, water will help you improve good health.

So why not drink at least 8 glasses of water every single day and see for youself the tremendous effect it will do.

But take note though, it’s also important you know that colored drinks like juices should never be counted in your daily water requirement. If you get to drink cola’s or you have a  medication, you need more water to wash away the toxins in your body.

Hence, count your fresh water intake everyday and avoid being dehydrated.
